Trust is gone

If Donald Trump tomorrow announces there are aliens living in the underground and even he appears with them in a video it would be a revolution. But could you trust it? It could be AI generated.

The reverse. If they’re hiding relationship with aliens and someone catches them and creates pictures and a video and shares it to the public… You cannot trust it. It could be AI generated. This scenario haven’t changed a lot, since you could already manipulate videos and proofs very well.

These examples are extreme, but they show were we’re now. All could be AI generated and you won’t be able to tell. Images, photos, text, interactions, messages, all. The incredible car accident your friend shared in your town was also fake, even if it’s possible.

The theory of the dead internet is no longer a theory but a reality. We’re still more or less capable to see patterns coming from AI. Just check x.com and see popular posts, all responses are AI.

Not only that, they also generate spam in all places where before were impossible or just not cost effective. Every place is subject to massive spam. People are already having spam in Github with pull requests which is something no one would’ve think of.

We need to rethink internet and society from scratch in this new era and find a way to create trust. I think we will need to work on trust and reputational networks but I’m not sure yet.
